Seniors Housing - Issues Identification Paper
This issues paper considers the housing experiences of seniors in Auckland, with a focus on vulnerable groups (asset poor renters and owner‐occupiers in a financially vulnerable situation). Community and Social Policy have identified housing issues facing seniors to be an emerging policy area for investigation.

The PRS is increasingly being used by local authorities and agencies to house homeless people but the ending of a private tenancy is now the leading cause of statutory homelessness.

Their vulnerability arises from the gendered nature of labour and child rearing in Australia which compromises women's lifetime capacity to earn, acquire and retain housing equity.

This UK study addresses three broad groups of questions:
- Choice, availability and affordability: If an older person or couple is thinking about moving, do they have a wide enough choice of suitable housing? Are developers and providers offering what older people want (and if not, why not)?

Precarious housing and health inequalities: what are the links?
This exploratory study asks two broad questions:
• Does poor health lead to precarious housing?
• Does precarious housing (including affordability, suitability and security of tenure) affect people’s health?
Older private renters (that is, people older than 65 years) were particularly vulnerable to unaffordable housing: half were in housing affordability stress.

This project aims to explore how the asset-poor status of older Australians helps to determine their demand for housing assistance, the coping strategies used by the asset-poor as they strive to secure satisfactory housing outcomes and the importance of these outcomes to ontological security.
