Housing for the Aged Action Group acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work, the Wurunjeri People of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island elders past, present and future.

We welcome all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over the age of 45 years of age to access our housing services, to work together with us for housing justice, and to work with us.

Members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities face unique challenges when it comes to accessing and maintaining housing. In 2016-17 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people made up 25% of the clients accessing specialist homelessness services. To ensure the needs of this community are adequately and appropriately addressed HAAG can also refer clients to the specialist services that are best placed to provide support, if they wish. Information on some of these services can be found below.

We have a deep respect for the world’s longest surviving culture and wish to identify opportunities within our organisation to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, who are over represented in homelessness.  To this end HAAG are working towards a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to support the national reconciliation movement.
