An effective homelessness services system for older Australians
This research is part of a wider AHURI Inquiry into an effective homelessness service system and this project is focussed on the following questions:
• What is the appropriate balance between early intervention, prevention and crisis services for older homeless people, and between specialist and mainstream services, in order to provide the most efficient and effective response to this group’s need

Could share housing be the answer for people as they age?
New housing forms are desperately needed to allow people to remain in their neighbourhoods as they age, by adapting their homes and embracing a new form of shared living.
A project in South Australia, with the Unley, Burnside, Prospect and Walkerville councils, has been funded to design a multi-generational housing concept in the established suburbs.

Housing Crisis: Young People Pushing Older Women Into Homelessness
Older women are Australia's fastest growing group of homeless people and the lack of affordable housing is a major factor in the rapid increase.
The number of homeless women over 55 has increased by a whopping 31 percent since 2011. Other demographics of homeless people have increased by just 14 percent since then.

Older women have emerged as one of the most vulnerable groups in relation to housing insecurity and homelessness in Australia in recent years. They are not a group that is historically associated with homelessness and indeed, many older women have never been homeless before.

Learning from past mistakes: lessons from the National Rental Affordability Scheme
All Australians are spending more of their incomes on housing than in the past, but low-income households are feeling the pinch most.
Many low-income renters are in poverty, and many more are suffering financial stress. Inequality is increasing because rising housing costs have disproportionately whittled away the income growth of poorer households.

Housing Plus Invests $75m to Address Central West and Orana Housing Shortage
The NSW Central West region’s ageing population, in particular vulnerable older women, are set to benefit from a $75M investment by Housing Plus.
Housing Plus, a local, regionally based community housing provider, is delivering 220 new social and affordable homes across Orange, Dubbo and Bathurst in the next three years, with the first properties becoming available in October 2019.
