Arthur*, aged in his 90’s, suffered a heart attack after receiving a rent increase notice. He and his partner had been living in the same rental property for 30 years, where the rent was increased by only small amounts every few years. After the property was sold, the new owner increased the rent to an amount more than the combined pensions of the couple.

Since expanding the Home at Last service to the Northern Central Victoria region, Housing for the Aged Action Group is proud to have helped one hundred older people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity to find safe, secure and affordable “forever homes”.

The Commissioner for Residential Tenancies and Social Housing is calling for older people to join her Renters advisory group, and a new group for Retirement Village residents. 

HAAG's pre-budget submission calls on the Victorian Government to further invest in our housing support and early intervention services, build Public and Community housing with some set aside for older people, revitalise the ILU sector and pilot shared equity housing schemes for older people.
