The coronavirus is having a huge impact on many aspects of our lives, including our housing. HAAG is actively lobbying government for better protections for older renters during the pandemic, and your feedback will help us make sure we have the best information about older people’s housing needs right now. Older people are particularly vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus.  They need safe and affordable housing so they can practice physical distancing, quarantine and self-isolation as required. HAAG welcomes the government’s announcement about new protections for renters in the context of the pandemic, but outlines further measures that must be taken to protect older renters, during, and after the pandemic.

We are working off-site and have cancelled all face-to-face meetings and services. We are still available and working to protect all vulnerable older clients.

On midnight, Monday the 30th March 2020, Stage Three restrictions to stop the spread of COVID-19, started in Victoria. Victorians were given a clear and simple message: “Stay home to Protect Yourself and the Victorian Health Care System”. For homeless people, this order to stay home, was almost impossible to adhere too.
