Intake & Referral Worker

We are seeking an enthusiastic worker to join our intake and referral team at Home at Last. You will be providing office-based over the phone and face-to-face information and referral to older people on low income who are in insecure housing or who are experiencing homelessness and/or require assistance to access aged care services and other support services. You will have high levels of empathy for older people in stressful housing situations and a professional manner with service providers.

Housing for the Aged Action Group strongly supports the Council’s proposal to lease land for community housing in Rosebud. We commend Mornington Peninsula Shire for its vision to provide safe, stable, and affordable medium-term housing for low-income women and their children, as well as women aged 55 and over at risk of homelessness. Community housing provides vital affordable and stable housing that older people desperately need.

Care Finder Worker

We are seeking a team player to join our care finder team, to provide support and assistance to older people who may be “falling through the gaps” in the system. Many older people with special needs (as defined in the Aged Care Act) will access care finders if they are vulnerable, marginalised, or disadvantaged, this includes language or cultural differences, being homeless or at risk of homelessness, and needing specialist support because of life history or identity, such as the Forgotten Australian or people who identify as LGBTIQ+.

Legislation before the ACT Parliament proposes that the right to housing is included in their Human Rights Act. Secure, adequate housing is fundamental to the wellbeing of older people. HAAG supports measures to ensure older people’s rights are protected and they are empowered to exercise those rights.

HAAG strongly supports the inclusion of the right to adequate housing in the Human Rights Act 2004 (ACT), and urges the Committee to recommend that the Human Rights (Housing) Amendment Bill 2025 be passed.

In 2021, Housing for the Aged Action Group extended its housing information service for older people to the Goulburn Valley region of Central Victoria, providing information and advice on housing options and practical support for older people at risk of homelessness. Despite floods, COVID-19, heatwaves and fires, a small team of local women have assisted over 91 older people at risk of homelessness to find housing. This video tells their story.
