Back at home in river country

Kayleen, a 55-year-old Yorta Yorta Aboriginal woman, was given HAAG’s number by a friend to talk about her housing needs.

Kayleen had been residing in NSW for the past 40 years. When she lost her mother, it left her feeling isolated from her family and community. Kayleen felt she needed to return to her traditional Yorta Yorta Country to heal and reconnect with her country and her family.

Our North Central Victoria team assisted Kayleen with her application for Public Housing. Eventually she received an offer for public housing in Echuca.

Immediately we stepped in to support Kayleen with the property viewing and the sign up, as well as advocated with local retail shops and managed to negotiate discounts for whitegoods and a bed.

Kayleen has settled into her unit, which she made her home now. Kayleen is very thankful for the support that was provided by all HAAG Housing Support workers, and for how quickly they stepped into assist her.
