New donations to HAAG

Centrelink Social workers across a number of offices in the north east held a fundraiser for us during Homelessness Week.  They are big referrers to our Home at Last Service and think we do a great job of helping older people. Pictured are two of the social workers, who came down personally to deliver the donation to managers April Bragg and Fiona York.

The Brunswick CWA branch  held stalls and sold jam to raise funds for older women at risk of homelessness.  Pictured are members of the CWA with our community education worker Gemma White, who was thrilled by this unexpected donation!

Nationally, at their AGM in August, the Victorian CWA have recently passed motions in support of older women and homelessness.  The motion reads: The Country Women’s Association of Victoria Incorporated calls on both the Federal and State Governments to immediately substantially increase rental assistance to vulnerable single females, fifty-five years and older, in receipt of government income support payments, to enable them to live in safety and dignity as the growing disparity between the current increased commercial rentals and inadequate rental assistance are contributing factors to the increasing crisis of homelessness amongst older single women.

The motion was passed, representing hundeds of women across the country!
