Join HAAG’s Committee of Management

HAAG is looking for new members to join our Committee of Management.

The focus of the Committee is on the strategic direction and oversight of the organisation, rather than day-to-day operational decisions, which are delegated to the paid management team. As a member-based organisation, our members drive the decisions and directions of HAAG which are overseen by our Committee of Management.
HAAG’s Committee of Management is elected at the Annual General Meeting in November. It is a representative body made up of members of the organisation from professional backgrounds and those with lived experience of the issues that HAAG tries to address. Having a variety of skills and experience on our Management Committee is integral to the organization and one way in which HAAG strives to remain connected to, and led by, the community.

HAAG's Constitution was updated in November 2019.  It now allows for up to 5 ordinary members to sit on the Committee. Ordinary members must be a member of HAAG and agree to the aims and objectives of the organisation.  There are four office-bearing positions – Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary.
At least half of the Committee of Management must be over the age of 50 years.  We strive for a gender balance and representation of people from diverse backgrounds, including culturally and linguistically diverse and Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Intersex people.
Committee members are elected for a three year term, with one third up for re-election every year.  Both office-bearers and ordinary members are directly elected by the membership at the AGM.

The Committee meets once a month, with a minimum of 8 meetings per year, usually lasting between 1.5 and two hours. Currently meetings occur at 4.30pm on the last Wednesday of the month. All members of the Committee are expected to attend and participate fully in Committee meetings, including reading meeting materials and participating in any skills development or training arranged for the Committee.  

The Committee of Management are encouraged to join sub-committees.  There are currently two sub-committees of the Committee – finance and governance – who make recommendations to the Committee for decisions.

There are three General meetings and one Annual General meeting a year which members are invited to attend, to participate in the organisation.  Committee members are encouraged to participate in General meetings for members.

We are specifically seeking new Committee members from diverse backgrounds and/or with skills in accounting, law or management.
