Cooperative housing for an ageing Australia

The focus of this study is on not-for-profit cooperative housing and the role it may be able to play in addressing the challenge of an ageing population in Australia. It explores the benefits of cooperative housing as a model and reviews the model’s success overseas to build an understanding of how it might be implemented successfully in Australia. Through qualitative research, this study presents the status quo of the Australian affordable housing sector and explores the opportunities for innovation through cooperative housing. The findings from this research demonstrate that cooperative housing is a good model for housing older people that has potential within the Australian context.
