As a HACC Assessment officer, in the past 12 months alone I have referred 3 older persons to Home at Last. I saw personally the relief on the people's faces when they knew they had somewhere to go and someone to help them. Being in their 70's and 80's in private rental they had never thought they would be put in the position of becoming homeless. This service is part of my 'tool kit' of services I have available to me to support older persons to remain living in their community.

HAAG is an important organisation that provides support to vulnerable older Victorians. It is important that we not forget the contribution older Victorians have made to forging our State. Because of a lack of affordable housing in Victoria, many older citizens are facing homelessness in greater number than ever before. Because of this, HAAG's role is vital in supporting our aged, or older Victorians. Ongoing funding is vital to HAAG's cause.

Thank you to the Minister for the continued funding to August 2015. This funding should be enshrined in legislation to be continued into the future with suitable annual adjustments. For a government to withdraw funding from the Housing For the Aged Action Group or feed it fragmentarily in quarterly instalments should be an embarrassment and source of shame for that government.
