Dementia Education for staff in the Homelessness Sector

Workers from HAAG attended a session run by Alzheimers Australia to better understand the symptoms and risk factors of Dementia.  Along with participants from other organsiations we also learnt how to:

  • Implement effective strategies for communicating with people living with Dementia
  • Understand the changes in behaviour of a person living with Dementia
  • Use the person-centred approach to improve the quality of life for a person living with Dementia
  • Use the problem solving approach to support people living with Dementia

This is helpful for our staff to know as certain Housing options may not be appropriate for people suffering with Dementia. It may also effect our ability to assist some clients if we weren't able to understand what they are gong through.

Thanks to Debbie Maddicks from Alzheimers Australia who facilitated the session.
