Pensioners Priced out of the Rental Market

The latest Rental Affordability Index found that pensioners are being priced out of the rental market. No surprise to HAAG members who have been feeling the rental squeeze for many years.

Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG) says that the Treasurers budget falls short of delivering housing security for older Australians.
‘The measures put in place in this budget seem to cater mostly for middle-class, income earners and neglect the needs of the most vulnerable; those on government pensions’ says co-manager at HAAG Fiona York.

Ageing on the Edge - National Action Project Kicking off in Tasmania

Exciting new partnerships are developing for the Project in Tasmania. This week Jeff Fiedler visited Hobart to begin networking and developing links with key housing and older persons organisations.

During the trip Jeff attended an event on May 2 called The Big Squeeze organised by Anglicare. The event highlighted information from their recent national Rental Affordability Snapshot.

Residents Gather to Rally for Reform

On the 1st of May, a group of 140 residents of retirement villages, residential villages, caravan parks and independent living units came together at a Retirement Housing Forum at Victoria University to ensure the inquiry recommendations are seriously considered and acted upon as part of future reform.

The group prioritised a number of the Victorian Government's Parliamentary Inquiry's recommendations.

Project Making Progress at the NSW Rental Options Roundtable for Older People

 As part of the NSW government’s Ageing Strategy 2016-20, Jeff Fiedler gave a presentation to the Rental Options Roundtable for Older People that was attended by 50 key representatives of agencies in NSW including the Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies.
