The Commissioner for Residential Tenancies and Social Housing is calling for older people to join her Renters advisory group, and a new group for Retirement Village residents. 

The role of the Commissioner is to provide independent advice to the Victorian Government and recommend changes to renting laws, programs and services to improve the renting rights, practices and tenant experiences across Victoria. Information gathered form the Advisory Group informs the work of the Commissioner.

Residential Tenancies (RT) Renters Advisory Group: The Commissioner for Residential Tenancies and Social Housing is looking for renters to join her Renters Advisory Group. T

The Advisory Group comprises renters who can speak as someone who fit one or more of the following descriptions, either currently or previously:

• rents in private, or public and community housing

• lives in either a rooming house, caravan or moveable dwelling

• rents a site in a residential park, or

• lives in specialist disability accommodation.

Retirement Villages (RV) Residents Advisory Group: The Commissioner for Retirement Villages is looking for residents to join her Residents Advisory Group.

The Victorian government recently passed legislation to improve conditions for people who live in retirement villages. The next step is to make sure that all the regulations and new processes meet the needs of residents, and this group will be an important source of advice to government to achieve the full potential of these reforms.

The Advisory Group aims to comprise at least 8 members who represent the broad diversity of residents of retirement villages. The members will be selected based on the following criteria:

a.    Property interest: Lifetime leasehold, strata title, stratum title, and company share
b.    Operator type: corporate, NFP, Owners’ Corporation, Association and Board
