HOUSING DEMONSTRATION PORT MELBOURNE
STOP THE SALE OF PUBLIC LAND
CORNER OF RAGLIN-INGLES & CROCKFORD STREETS
PORT MELBOURNE

The site has 64 newly constructed public homes and the 1.3-hectare site was originally planned to be open space for the estate residents.

Tenant spokesperson
Ms Kerrie Byrne
stated "The Office of Housing has broken their promise to tenants by selling off this land." "We have obtained information that there is an existing proposal to construct an additional 50 private units on the corner of land that was promised as open space for families and older people living on the estate" she said.

A mock auction conducted by "Rotten Rick Rip-Off" realtor (a former disgraced used car dealer) offered developers bidding for the park a $1,000 free fuel bonus as an incentive to purchase the land.

Ms Byrne further stated "The Bracks Government treats public tenants like Forrest Gumps who will quietly cop whatever is handed out to them. Everyone knows that parkland and open space improves well-being and strengthens communities, Port Melbourne public tenants should not have to sacrifice their quality of life just because the Victorian Government wants to abrogate its responsibility of providing public housing in the same way it provides all other Government services to the public i.e. hospitals, schools, transport and the like."
