We are overjoyed to report that the Minister for Housing Martin Foley has committed 4 YEARS FULL FUNDING for the Home at Last program.

It has been a long and tiring road, marched by dedicated staff, encouraging clients and enthusiastic members; supported all the way by literally hundreds of individuals and organisations who were not ready to see Home at Last close their doors to the thousands who need them. We waged our campaign for 8 months. To say we were relieved to receive the news of our funding success is a grand understatement. There were tears and hugs as everyone celebrated the long awaited commitment and the recognition of the importance of homelessness prevention for older Australians that such a commitment brings.

We are also delighted to hear that all other IAPs have been funded, particularly the Wintringham project for older people in rural Victoria.

Home at Last may now continue to work at full capacity- with that 'just funded' glow- giving 110% to the job as we look onward and upward to a bright and successful future. It is exciting to think that over these next 4 years (and hopefully well beyond that too) THOUSANDS of older Australians will find secure, affordable and safe housing outcomes. We can continue to develop our strong relationships with agencies and community groups to ensure that people are housed as quickly and efficiently as possible. We can continue to hold Forums, Presentations and Community Talks to share the information that affordable housing options are available and that we can provide the links people need to them. And we can continue to help people out of precarious, dangerous and abusive situations into a place they feel safe and secure, for good.

Thank you again to the Victorian Government and the Minister for Housing, Martin Foley who recognised the need for such a program and the social and economical advantages of funding it.

Home at Last and HAAG would also like to thank the HAL Campaign working group for driving the direction of this successful campaign, our Committee of Management and Members for your brilliant ideas and encouragement and our clients who have shared thier stories with the media to assist our campaign. Also, Bentwheel productionsCopy Place and Media outlets (ABC News, Herald Sun, The Leeder, The Senior News) for helping us get our stories and information out there. Thank you to all our supporters who sent emails to the Minister and those who visited or wrote to there MPs, and Ellen Sandell, Greens MP for Melbourne and her team for thier support throughout our campaign.

We hope to see all of you at a our little Celebration on Friday 22nd May.
