Funding News
Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing
One of our vital services is our outreach support service for frail older people who are in housing difficulty. Called the Assistance with Care and Housing for the Aged (ACHA) Service, this funding allows us to help older people who are being evicted from private rental housing to be able to access affordabel housing. while we have been providing this service for nearly 15 years, the funding has remained static over that period. From July 1 2009 our funding for this program has been increased by 25% and has enabled us to employ another ACHA worker.
Consumer Affairs Victoria
Consumer Affairs Victoria has provided funding to HAAG for a new position that will focus on the needs of older poeple living in retirement housing with a focus on the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged residents if retirement villages. This program commenced as a 12 month pilot and is now an ongoing project for two years from July 2010. We aim to improve resident's knowledge of their rights and support them to take action when required.

Myer Foundation Commemorative Grant
We have been provided a Commemorative Grant to celebrate 75 years of the Sidney Myer Fund and 50 years of The Myer Foundation. Grants have been provided to 37 Australian non-profit organisations in recognition of their work. The HAAG Project is to provide a better service to our members, as well as provide more information to the broader Victorian community about older persons housing issues and to provide more assistnace to older people in need. This will include more regular newsletters, suburban and country forums, general meetings, getting out to health and aged care services that assist older people so that we can provide them with housing information and also improve our Housing Options Service.
